Question Can Excels with macros be called programs? What's the correct terminology?

I've been calling my excel macro projects just that - projects - or reffering to them as 'files' at times.

Would I be ok calling them a program even though they're built on Excel and VBA?

    What is the correct terminology?

I've seen some pretty advanced/involved macros.
Does the terminology change at a certain point?

    Is it all subjective?

I usually say things like, "I have an Excel workbook with some procedures that do....". Personally, I don't consider them as "programs" that I write because the program itself is Excel however I do program workbooks.

That was my general thought as well.

It just seems a bit cumbersome to spell out like that.
I was hoping maybe their was a shorter description that was still acurate...

I tend to refer to them as "Excel Applications" ... it's more than just Excel and, if it's automated to some extent using VBA (a programming language), then it's a program/application.

A complex workbook with lots of sheets, formulas, charts and pretty formatting is probably still just a spreadsheet ... though some might consider otherwise.

Excel applications! I think that might be the perfect description - built on excel but extending the functionality for a specific purpose...

@ Mordred: well, that's what you get for being naughty. Good to hear from you, I was beginning to think you weren't playing with us any more. Though, with the revelations about Jimmy Saville, that takes on a *whole* new context.
