Anyone else having trouble posting and losing connection with the server?

FDibbins,
Being a moderator, perhaps you could answer a question for me... and please don't hold the wrath of Forum Rule #2 over me for this.
Question: Why on Earth does this forum have a login timeout after a certain amount of time? If I look at a forum member's question and take 15-20 minutes to work out a solution then come back to post it - I have been logged out and have to log back in - and I never left the page!
It just doesn't make sense. So long as I never leave the page, I should stay logged in. I know you don't control how the forum itself works, but seeing as you are a moderator, perhaps you have some special channels to pass on friendly suggestions.
Thanks,
Moo
Hi Moo,
I have never encountered such a thing. If this seems to be a reoccurring problem you could log it with...
http://support.excelforum.com/index.php
trouble is when the forum backs up all the bits have to be put in a bit bucket and poured into the standby, mostly the bucket is loaded with a metaphorical shovel/spade but this forum got it wrong and bought a very small garden trowel.
Ahhh, horticultural metaphors... there's really no place I'd rather spend a Saturday night than Excel Forum.
- Moo
Moo, I used to have the same problem at 1 stage. then, when I logged in, I also clicked the "keep me logged in" check-box. I log in here at work and at home. when i click on the forum at work now, i dont even have to log in. when i log in at home, I click the check box, and never have to log in again (during that session)
I'll try that.
Yes i do the same as FDibbins and unless i clear the browser cache, i dont have to login again.
Also, saturday is the day when all backups happen. This may take a few hours so please bear with us during this time.
If I have helped, Don't forget to add to my reputation (click on the star below the post)

I don't know what type of database runs vBulletin, but can't you do some kind of snapshot of the db, or use something like a SQL Maintenance plan that would impact the live system far less?
Let me check with them Paul.
