To color each level in a different color by coloring visible cells:

1. Add subtotals with two different total levels (see page 305).
2. Click Level 3 of the Subtotal levels.
3. Select cell A1, and press Ctrl+Shift+* or press Ctrl+A.
4. Press Ctrl+; to select the visible cells only.
5. Select Home -> Fill Color (in Font Group) and select a color.
6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for Level 2 of the Subtotal levels, using a different color
7. Click Level 4 of the Subtotal levels to unhide all hidden rows in the List.



To color each level in a different color using Conditional Formatting:

1. Select cell A1, and then press Ctrl+Shift+* or press Ctrl+A.
2. Select Home -> Conditional Formatting (in Styles Group) -> New Rule.
3. Select Use a Formula to determine which cells to format.
4. In Format values where this formula is true insert the formula =ISBLANK($C1), click the Format button, select the Fill tab, select a color and click OK twice.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for Condition 2, and type the formula =ISBLANK($D1)into the formula box.
6. Repeat step 5, and click OK twice.
