How to use Document Map in MS Word 2007

Document Map is useful for long documents where you can map content of any document in Word 2007. You can jump to any part of the document on heading basis or page basis. This feature also provides bird’s-eye view for the document structure.

This post shows you how to use Document Map to navigate between your word document and to view the document structure. By using this, you can also change the style of Document Map outline. To do so, follow the inline steps:

    1. Click on View tab on the ribbon and select Document Map check box in Show/Hide group.
    2. A pane displays on the left side of the screen and shows the headings of the document. You can jump to that particular heading by clicking on the entry provided in the Document Map.

It may also show you the thumbnails of all the pages of the document. For this, select Thumbnails from the drop-down list at the top of the Document Map pane. These thumbnails help you to quickly jump to a particular page.

You can set the heading level you want to display in the Document Map section. To do this, right-click on the Document Map pane and select any of the Show Heading option you want.
