    Formatting label for Mail Merge

Hi, I'm having difficulty correctly formatting a label to do what I need it to do in a mail merge...

    Here is my layout...

The top merge field 'Project' needs to wrap to the second line, without disturbing the third.

Then the third line needs to have each merge field justify to their respective sides, so that as the length of either field increases, it goes towards the middle, and doesn't otherwise disturb the layout. (I read about pressing 'ctrl' and 'tab' while entering the merge field, but I couldn't get it to consistently go where I wanted it to when the merge was executed)

I'm sure I'm not doing something simple correctly, I just don't know what it is.

    Hi,

To break the Project over two lines without moving other label fields, you need to use CTRL+ENTER to create a soft return.

As for the other two fields, you cannot have a left alignment and a right alignment on the same line.
I would usually suggest to split the cell into two columns, and then you can use left and right aligning, but this is not viable for labels as the next record is then merged into the split cells; since each cell is seen as a singular label.

The best would be to align both bottom labels as center with a tab ot two separating the words.
    Regards,
    Rudi

ctrl+enter triggers a page break in my version of word (2010).

    I think it's shift+enter for a soft return.

Question though, where does it go? At the end of the merge field with no spaces? Or down on the next line?

    Oops, sorry...
    I meant SHIFT+ENTER

I'd put it in at the end of the merge field. In the fast test I did it wrapped without changing the label size, but I'd simply recommend to test it on your side too and verify.

Nonsense. All you need is a single tab between the fields and a right-aligned tab-stop at wherever you want the right-alignment to be set to. That way, the results of both fields will merge into the space between them.

    Hey Macropod,

You got me on that one.
I humbly apologize Jason. (I certainly overlooked that trick!!)

Although you could insert a paragraph break or a manual line break between your «PROJECT» and «CONTRACTOR» mergefields as RudiS suggests, that of itself won't prevent the «CONTRACTOR» and «BID_DATE» results moving down when the contents of the «PROJECT» field wraps to a second line. The only way to do that, would be to give the cell a fixed height, with the vertical alignment set to 'bottom'. That way, when the contents of the «PROJECT» field wraps to a second line, it will move its own top line up. Somehow, though, I suspect you don't really want that, either. The alternative is to use a nested single-cell table for the «PROJECT» field, with that cell's vertical alignment set to 'top'. If you make that table cell's height 2/3 of the overall fixed height, you'll be able to have the «PROJECT» field's output wrap without disturbing the positioning of the «CONTRACTOR» and «BID_DATE» results.

To obtain the left & right alignment for the «CONTRACTOR» and «BID_DATE» results, simply insert a tab between them, via Ctrl-tab and set a right-aligned tab-stop near or against the right margin of the cell.
