    Gap After Number Problem

    Word Problem.JPG

As you see there is a huge gap after the number ten. It automatically happens. How to fix it?

    Re: Gap After Number Problem

I believe that your outline template inserts an automatic Tab character after each of your numbers...which is supposed to make the space after the numeral consistent.

However, when your numeral becomes longer by another digit (for example, when you go from 9 to 10), the Tab character automatically bumps out to the next tab stop.

I would try to solve this by clearing the Tab settings for all of the numbered paragraphs and then re-establishing the first tab stop in each paragraph at a point that is to the right of the longest numeral.

The gap is caused by not having sufficient space between the tab character that is automatically inserted after the automatic number and the first automatic tab-stop. You can fix that by increasing the hanging indent setting for all the numbered paragraphs.

How to do that? I can't find "tab settings" on File - Options - Advanced

That's because that is not where the defaults are set. They are set via Paragraph>Tabs>Default tab stops, from either the Home tab or the Page layout tab on the Ribbon.

    Thank you very much.

I've set it as 0.21 cm and it works.
