When I try to reopen it, it is not in a editable format. I think it is locked or something. What I do is copy the data from the document, open a new document and then paste the data and then I edit it. Once again when I save the edited document and reopen it again it is locked for editing.

It's a local issue, then. It opens fine here.
If the data is huge then it displays in 2 pages side by side when I open it.
Yes, and? What does that have to do with it?
If it's locked for editing, then it's an issue local to you. The attachment is not locked for editing when opened.
Found and corrected the issue. The word was opening the document in read mode no idea why. In the view bar Layout was column layout and I changed it to paper layout and changed the read mode to print layout and got it working again.
Thanks AliGW for trying to help.
Excellent.
Please mark the issue as solved.
Just to reiterate Ali's comments, I can open, edit, save and re-open the document attached.
I'd suggest you close Word and delete any temporary files that it has created and not removed.

I think you should probably try rebooting your machine too. Then try again.

Trevor. I had used word a few months back to learn how to read a file by using Read Aloud speech. Since then, the word document has been opening in a read mode which I noticed today. I have successfully overcome the problem now by clicking print layout at the bottom of the page. Thanks man.
