Red face Word Mail Merge Formatting Question

I've created a mail merge document that includes dollar amounts. I would like to format these fields with 2 decimal points and a $ sign. I can't seem to find how to do that. I formatted the Excel source but the formatting didn't come through so it seems I must format the fields in the Word doc. I tried the Help function but it still isn't clear to me. How do I do that? Thanks!

Re: Word Mail Merge Formatting Question

One suggestion. In the source Excel file have a helper column present the dollar amount as text. E.G. =TEXT(CellRef,"$#,##0.00") and use it in the merge.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.
