Spreadsheet that will calculate shopping list based on recipies

Hi there,

I am struggling to develop a formula that will calculate quantities of groceries based on recipes and number of times the meals will be consumed. Can anyone help? I have no clue as to what formula to use which is why I couldn't even tag it/identify it in the title.

I've uploaded a sample workbook - I would like to pull in the grocery numbers in the third tab.

If you are trying to populate the third sheet Shopping List based on the first sheet Recipes, where is the day criteria listed on Recipes sheet?
Populate the Shopping List sheet manually to let us know what values you are expecting on this sheet.

Hi there,

Sorry for the lack of explanation. The meal plan tab is filled out manually and this is fine. What I would like to be able to do is manipulate the numbers on the shopping list tab by adjusting the quantities in the meal plan tab if this makes sense. So if I decide that I actually need 2 fruit salads on Monday I can enter '2' and the quantities needed will automatically update in the shopping list tab.

The formula does not need to match weekdays between tabs.

I hope this makes sense.

Hi,
I have looked at your problem but have not found an answer. Using formulae I can gather data for an individual recipe but not a group as you require.

I reformatted the "Recipe" sheet as I think this lends itself to a possible solution.

Hopefully one the experts will offer a solution: VBA might be an alternative.

Hi - thanks for this. I think it involves some kind of vlookup and sumif type formulas but I get totally lost when I attempt it...

I'd like to steer clear from VBA if possible!!

The issue (as I see it) is the summation of the data for several recipes for a given day some sort of array formulae ?. I have tried finding suitable formulae on the web but without success.

If the table I suggested is acceptable perhaps repost as you have not had a response for a few days: hopefully this does not breach the rules of the forum!
