File size very large and slow to save

I have an excel file that is 9.2 Mb's and it is very slow to save. When I open it, I also get the message "This workbook contains links to one or more external sources that could be unsafe".

I do not think that I am able to attach the file since it is too large? Is there a way to attach a file that is this large?

Can anyone suggest what I can do to the file to resolve the link problem and to make the size more compact?

    Thanks.

File size is relative to the amount of data contained therein.

If the file is in xls compatibility mode format, I would convert it to xlsx. This can help reduce filesize.

If it contains a large amount of raw data, you may want to consider building a summary workbook that contains the top-most information, instead of the all the underlying values. This can be accomplished through a variety of formulas such as SUMPRODUCT, SUMIF, and INDEX.

As for links, if you want to prevent the updates and sever all ties to other workbooks that the formulas currently draw on, then go to Data -> Connections -> Edit Links ->Break link

Re: File size very large and slow to save

    Thanks daffodil,

This is already an xlsx file and there are no links to other workbooks. Can you tell me if there is a way to post the 9.2Mb file so that someone could have a quick look at it to see if there may be some way other than what you have described to speed it up?

It has 26 sheets in it. It seems as though some of the problems with crashing and freezing up started after I installed the Kutools add in. Does anyone know if that could be part of the problem?

    Thanks.

Can anyone help with how I may be able to upload this file so that someone could take a look at it to see if there is some way to stop it from freezing/crashing all the time?

    Thanks.
