Hi and welcome to the forum
Please note that your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem.
Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.
To change a Title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.
Since this is your first post I'll change the title for you but note for the future.

Please manually add the results you expect, tell us where the results are and explain how you arrived at them. At the moment it's not at all clear to me.
I would like to calculate all the cells that say DAY as 1, and all cells that are AM & PM as .5 at the bottom of each row I would like a sum of how much totals are.
EX: DAY= A day off, AM & PM is a half day
Thanks
I attach a solution. Basically what I've done is insert a new column (green shading) immediately to the right of each of yours. Every cell in that green column has a formula that assigns a value based on the text entry in your existing column. If the text entry is "DAY", the value is 1, if it's "AM" or "PM", the value is 0.5, otherwise it's 0. Sum these values at the foot of your original column. Hide all the columns that assign the values. (In the file, the solution isn't implemented for all columns, but you'll get the idea).
WOW, that was fast, thanks so much this works. Much appreciated for your time!!!
Very happy to help paule!

Nice solution.
Looking at the problem I see two conditions that have the same answer so it should be possible to use a If / Or constraint to make the formula a bit shorter i.e.
