Issue in Exporting Report - Getting Different Column Headings For xls / PDF Export

    Hi All,

Please go through the attached sample database in which exporting the rStationery report to PDF / xls resulting different column headers.

But I need the column headers which arrives in PDF file should be same for xls file also.

I am unable to fix the actual root cause of this issue, so anyone please help me to get the PDF column headers to get reflected to xls file export also.

    Thanking you,

    Hi,

Right click on the report and then design view. Copy the words in the detail fields to the header label fields. Then do your report again.

The names used in the export are those of the elements in the Details section. I assume the names given where default ones.
You need to change the Name property. One problem will be the repeats of "Nos" which is not allowed. To get around this add a non breaking space character to one of the elements.

    Hi Andy Pope,

Thanks a lot for joining in and offering the suggestion

My actual problem persist in "Nos" which you rightly pointed out.

I have 20 fields which needs to show "Nos" Instead of its real name. As an example I created Two Fields alone for easy understanding.

I want it to get exported same like PDF. But excel is getting different headers which I am stumbled.

I can write VBA code to do that in excel but if I use excel and access then these people won't understand the actual problem and ask me why you are complicating the things, since repeating the Nos for multi columns is SAP requirement, so I cannot alther that part.

Even I can easily achieve it by using the query for Excel export and Report for PDF.

But I am unable to set background for certain columns in query... That is the real pain for me and I am struggling to get both in single report layout (to do both excel and PDF conversion).

    Hi Andy,

I written Post #5 content without seeing your sample file.

I see what you did in the example to get the expected result. But changing the whole thing is a big headache for me since the fields are enormous in the actual database.

Your sample file slightly arriving different headers for PDF & Excel which is highlighted and attached below

Any other suggestion to get the expected outcome will be very much helpful.

I think this is just a limitation of the export method.
    Alternative approaches are,

    - export the report from access using VBA code in access
    - rename the fields in excel workbook using vba in either access or excel
    - try text export options. Whilst more like the report the layout in excel may still require vba to tidy it

rUBBER was just me testing. Simply change the text back.

You can add period to names

    "Nos."
    "Nos.*"

Re: Issue in Exporting Report - Getting Different Column Headings For xls / PDF Export

    Thanks for the suggestions Andy

The "Nos." is a constant SAP requirement and I cannot use "Nos." "Nos.*" and I don't like to change the text box names manually or changing the field names by building it in query...

I don't what why microsoft kept a property called Datasheet Caption which is useless and not doing its job.

I assume Datasheet refers to spreadsheet (i.e.) excel so using the caption there then it should use that while exporting it to excel.

But it's not using that datasheet caption text while exporting to excel.

    Any ideas?

Nope, it refers to Datasheet view in Access, nothing to do with Excel or exporting.

If you change the caption in the query and export that rather than the report, you should get what you want.

Yes, I knew it and that is working fine but here the people asking me to color (Backcolor) certain columns which I cant do in query...

I tried to set that query as a source range for a continuous form and so that I can set the color for certain columns but the form also reacting in the same way like the report.

I can export the form in excel and use excel VBA code to apply the color but these guys are not allowing me to do that and they are asking then what is the need of access when we have to use excel.

They asking me to do whole thing in excel but excel and access have different capacity which they don't know anything about the advantage of using database.

This simple Background coloring making my task very difficult...

Can't you use a template that queries the Access database? Then you can format it however you like.

Mostly it sounds like you need to educate your users...

I cant keep too many source files and my intention is to keep a single db which can be transferred to any machine at any point of time since the users are against ms-access db implementation.

I am trying to automate all the excel task in access and I cant go back to excel for doing silly things, if I do that then they will question me why you are using excel? let us to continue with excel...

They don't understand I am not against excel, my core area is excel only but certain things needs different platform that they don't understand
