I would like to create a chart similar to the following. To the right of the axis, I show the inflows of deals; to the left of the axis, I show the outflows. Net values also need be displayed.

I expect you will use bar-XY combination similar to this column-XY combination: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/...HorizLine.html Add an appropriate data series, format as XY scatter, and apply appropriate error bars.
That's a great idea! However, when I try to choose xy-scatter to apply to a bar chart, the xy-series does not use the existing horizontal axis, but rather starts a new vertical axis. Is there anyway to adjust this?

He uses a bar-XY combination to build a "dot plot". I expect this will work if you adapt the parts used for making the dot plot to your Net series: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/DotPlot.html

Are you using error bars for the Net series? Error bars don't automatically show up in Excel's default legend. If you can find a tall skinny character in one of your fonts or make one as a drawing object, you can make a custom data marker that you can apply to the net series. In this example, this technique is used to make arrows to highlight individual data points: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/PointAtPoints.html
If the shape's height is much more than its width, the shape will not show up in the legend. Therefore, I could only create a small and short red square to indicate the Net series. I guess I will use it for now since this issue is probably hard to deal with. However, if you ever find a way to show the Net series' legend as it's shown on the website (very tall), could you please let me know? Thank you very much for all your help before, as they helped me to finish my chart for the most part.
