Excel 2007: Gantt chart showing incident duration

Hi All,

I am trying to follow the instructions here in order to plot a Gantt chart which will show me where our incidents occur most during the day and associated durations.

I have attached my current attempt but just can't work out why the chart is not appearing as expected. Any help would be most appreciated.

So it's just a stacked bar chart with an invisible offset column, right?

Well, your basic problem is that you're mixing-and-matching data types; you've already got the date/time info serialized, so you don't need to split out that *0.0417 helper column.

Also you haven't actually split the "date/time" column into "date" and "time".

Well, a bigger problem is that you're trying to stick 300+ rows on a chart? That's not going to be very helpful for exploring the data (in my opinion).

Thanks very much for your help. As you say, the Gantt chart doesn't represent the data quite as well as your chart. This has saved me so much time and the great formulas you supplied will help me to improve my perception of how to 'get stuff done' in Excel. Thanks again. Much appreciated.
