Pivot tables to analyse sporting fixtures

    Hi,

I am new to this forum.. I use excel a bit for work but i am trying to learn some more advanced things now. I'd be super grateful for any help.
Ive tried to include enough information to describe the problem without writing too much.. I hope I phrase my issue clearly

I am trying to learn some more about using pivot tables to analyse a set of sporting fixtures.
I have a fixtures spreadsheet with columns for Division, Date, Day, Venue, Home team, away team etc. I'd like to set something up maybe using pivot tables and slicers to select a given team to view some statistics on the fixtures they have for a season.
We dont really have actual home grounds as each ground is shared but we still have a column for home and away.

What I would like to do is to be able to select a team\s and then see how many weekday matches they have and how many games that have at each venue. This is to check if there has been an equitable distribution of weekday vs weekday matches and distribution of venues. Ive been trying to used my limited knowledge of pivot tables\charts to help acheive this and I am having some success getting statistics per division as i can add this as a report filter. The problem i have is to see statistics per team given that each team could be listed in either the "away team" or "home team" columns. When ive added these as report filters it doesnt work because if i select a team in both home and away there are zero results because a team cannot play themselves.

So, I'd like to know how to generate a report where i could select a team as a filter and it would then give me results regardless if that team was in the home team or away team column.

    Thanks!

Re: Pivot tables to analyse sporting fixtures

My idea instead of searching in two columns was to create a 3rd, merged column. Then I would have to have a slicer that could somehow search for a results based on an if query. For example a cell may contain the text "A v B", would it be possible to have a slicer that looked for cells that contained "A"?
