tips/techniques on how to speed up pivot table calculations

Hello everyone, I'm relatively new to pivot tables. I'm pretty sure this same topic has been posted before, but I was wondering if anyone could share to me the techniques and foundation of properly utilizing a pivot table. Currently I have a very large data set and my pivot table keeps on crashing every time I make changes from my slicers.

In addition, would utilizing power pivot for the large data set be more efficient or help speed up the large data set and calculated items?
