Create a 4 variable combo chart with a clustered column, stacked column, and line

I have Free Cash Flow, Net Share Repurchases, Dividends, and % Distribution.

I need the Cash flow to be a clustered column, the net share repurchase and dividends to be stacked all on the left axis, and the % distribution to be a line using the second axis.

I cannot graph all of these simply using the combo graph function. Is there a trick or workaround to show all of these?

    Any help would be great!

    Thank you

It is hard to say if there is a trick or a workaround without knowing why you cannot graph them simply on a combination graph. Towards this end, a sample file with an example of what you have tried, along with a description of why it is wrong, would probably help us understand your requirements.

I expect that, one way or another, this will end up being some kind of combination graph. The "trick" (if it is really a trick) or workaround is having the creativity to determine what to do after changing one series to the second chart type.

If you have not seen them, Jon Peltier has many tutorials on his website: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/ChartIndex.html A lot of these tutorials essentially involve creating a combination chart then tinkering with it (sometimes in rather creative ways) to get what you want.

Off the top of my head, I see echos of a "clustered and stacked" column chart (see tutorial on Jon's website) that might have some application in your request. Or maybe you are looking for something more like a panel chart (see tutorials on Jon's website). Something like those, combined with a line chart, might be the "trick" you are looking for.

    Book1.xlsx
Attached above is the kind of graph I am trying to create along with an example table of the data.

Thank you for your insightful response. Hopefully this provides a better context. I will look through the tutorials to see if they provide a solution.

I would start with the "clustered and stacked" column charts. I observe that this tutorial is mostly about how the data are arranged in the spreadsheet. Once the data are arranged properly in the spreadsheet, the chart is relatively easy to create.

From there, the line part should be a relatively simple combination chart with the stacked column chart. Easiest will be a line-stacked column combination chart, but you may want a scatter-stacked column combination chart if you feel a need to change the left/right position of the line chart data points on top of the stacked column chart.
