    Gradation Chart-inconsistant axis

    Dear Friends
I am attaching an excel file. You will find a screen shot of a chart. I couldn't figure it out how can I do a chart with three different color background. The down axis looks inconsistent. Could someone explain or create one like that.
    Thanks a lot

So, what you really need is location of 3 boundaries:
    clay-slit (0.002)
    slit-sand(0.06)
    sand-gravel(2)
on x axsis drawn on logarythmic scale.
why not add dummy series with x values excactly as above and Y somewhere in a range 0-100% (to fit on Y axis). In the attachment I used 50% - in the middle.
Now the easiest way will be to manually add shapes (rectangles), format them and move under the graph (with transparent background). see attachment (clay and sand done, dummy serues to be deleted when painting rectangles is finished)

One could also play with surface graph, but I think it is much more timeconsuming.

You can use a combination chart.

Starting from scratch add a cluster bar chart using the 4 layers.
Add extra data series and change chart type to xy-scatter.
Set horizontal axis crosses at 0.001
Format bars to overlap 100 and gap of 0.
Remove primary vertical axis and set secondary vertical axis labels to low
