    Chart with three y axis values

    For my beer fermentation I take values for gravity, temperature, and pH at specific times. I have a chart where I mark the time by hours and days, so at 8 hours I write "8h" and at 2 days 3 hours I write "2d3h". I would like to make a chart that displays time on the x axis and the values for gravity, temp, and pH on the y axis. I'd like the y axis to have gridlines and labels for gravity and temp, and each data point to be labeled for all three (grav, temp, pH). I hope this makes sense.

    Attached is a demo of my spreadsheet. The values I type in are on the first page and I'd like the chart to be on the second page. I reproduced the chart on the second page because the chart on the first page combines cells, you'll see what I mean...

    Thanks!

    Re: Chart with three y axis values

    As simple as this seems, is it less about the specific question and more general "how do I create a chart in Excel?" It should be as simple as
    1) Select A9:D27
    2) Insert -> Chart
    3) XY scatter chart type
    4) finish chart wizard (since I assume you are using 2003 as indicated by your profile).

    The only adjustment I would suggest is to get some real time numbers in column A, rather than the meaningless (to Excel) text string representations you have. You can use Excel's built in date/time serial number system that represents times as fractional days (http://www.cpearson.com/Excel/datetime.htm#SerialDates ) or whatever other numerical representation of date/time you like (decimal hours or minutes or ???).

    Re: Chart with three y axis values

    Thanks for the response, but when I select A9:D27 the problem is that the number scale on the y axis is the same, so my gravity readings (which range from about 1.100 to 1.010) just look like a line of zeros at the bottom of the page. I'd like two scales, one for gravity and one for temp (which ranges from 90F to 30F).

    Double click on the series in the chart and it will bring up a dialogue box. From memory the top of the dialogue box has a selection for either primary of secondary axis. select secondary axis.

    Using a secondary axis is one possible approach. It is quick and easy.

    If you are interested, here's a tutorial for a "panel chart" that talks about one effective method of dealing with multiple data series where the range of data for each series differs dramatically. http://peltiertech.com/Excel/ChartsH...venScales.html If you are up to the challenge and you decide it is worth the effort, I think this might be a useful technique for you to become familiar with.
