Understanding the ability of 3D Maps

Is it possible to show track the number of movements (data) between two points in a3D Maps. Example: If I have 300k moves that have an origin and a destination throughout the US and Canada and I want to see the movements from say LA to Dallas and Seattle to Chicago and others, can I do that?

Thank you in advance for your help?

I am going to offer a cautiously optimistic, but useless, "yes, this is possible." Can you provide some more detail about what you want to do? When you talk about a "3D Map", are you talking about putting data on a map of the United States (something like this for Excel 2013 https://www.ablebits.com/office-addi...21/excel-maps/ )? Or are you talking about something like a surface chart (such as a 3D surface or 3D wireframe) https://support.office.com/en-us/art...a-27cdb19afb90 ? If you will provide some details of what you are trying to do, I am confident we can help.

Re: Understanding the ability of 3D Maps

Thank you for your help Shorty. I work for a logistics company that just upgraded to Office 2016 from 2010. I am trying to revamp my reporting to show a map of the US and Canada with arrows showing the volume moving from the ports of LA, Oak, Seattle to inland locations such as Dallas, Chicago, and others. Does this make sense? Below is a sample table.

    Month Origin Destination Volume
    1 LA Chicago 200
    1 Seattle Memphis 175
    1 LA Dallas 250
    1 LA Kansas City 100
    1 Chicago LA 150
    1 Memphis Seattle 50
    1 Dallas LA 200
    1 Kansas City LA 100

It looks like it could be important to know your Excel version for this. You might update your profile to reflect the upgrade from 2010 to 2016.

It makes sense. Running an older version myself, I cannot help with the details of creating or using 3D maps. A quick through tutorials and helpfiles I can find online shows several examples of data charted with cities on a map. Most examples seem to be bubble (value represented as size of a circle) or column (value represented as the height of a column rising above the map). I don't see any examples using an arrow type symbol, but I can't say if it is not allowed. Can you create a basic 3D map using bubbles or columns? How much of your question is about the basics of using 3D maps, and how much is how to go beyond creating the map?

Flow map isn't possible using PowerMaps (3d maps).

There isn't any out-of-box tool in Excel that supports that functionality. There may be some commercial add-ins.

However, this sort of visual can be done using PowerBI Desktop with custom visual (though not 3d, unless you build one yourself).

Check, Weiwei Cui's Route Map or Flow Map.
