Pivot Chart to Display Dates that have no values

I have a pivot chart that displays as per below. But as you can see some months are missing because there is no data for the month.

I change the field settings on the pivot table to display items with no data, which adds the missing months, but even with a slicer filtering the data it displays months in the future that I don't want to display (as they obviously have no data yet).
Anyone have a method to fix this issue?
