    PowerPivot and SharePoint - compatible?

This is just a general question as I am not sure whether I will need to modify the connections to my external data sources but...

My workplace has an excel file on the Network drive which uses Power Pivot and references external datasets which gets updated weekly.
By moving this onto SharePoint so that various other people can view it, will this cause problems with the connection? Will the file still be functional?

    Can someone explain this please?
    Thanks.

If you are using SharePoint Online, there is no direct support for refreshing external data source that requires authentication.

Some hosted sources can be refreshed, but unless data is accessible from public domain (i.e. Office 365 service tenant), you won't be able to refresh.

Try testing it by uploading it to your OneDrive (business).

You may need PowerBI subscription and/or Azure Data tenant along with Data Gateway server to access and store data in MS Cloud service.
