    Proper Chart Selection

    All,

Advising my son on his science fair project, he needs a chart to show the data he's tracked. He made 5 different airplanes, and threw each one seven times to measure their distance of flight. I'm drawing a complete blank on which chart will layout the data in the way we want to visualize it.

So far I can get a scatter chart to get the points lined up correctly, but I can't edit the individual points to cluster correctly. It wants to link the series by "throw" (the row with numbers 1 through 7), and I need the series linked by "airplane". The attached image doesn't plot the points perfectly, just an example of what we need to visualize.

    Thanks for the help!

It's not clear to me exactly what you want or what difficulty you are having.
It wants to link the series by "throw" (the row with numbers 1 through 7), and I need the series linked by "airplane".
This sounds like Excel's default choice when the source data range is wider than it is tall. This should only be a problem if you are unaware of the ways to change Excel's default behavior. Have you tried the "switch row/column command"? Have you tried pulling up the "select data" command and adding/removing/editing data series until they show what you want?
