Excel Pivot Table Date Filter Problem

Hello.

I have an excel Pivot Table with a Date-Column that has a Table as its source.

The problem is that although the Pivot Table's filter CAN Group by Month/Year etc it simply just shows each individual date when the filter is picked vs the usual years that you can extend and check/uncheck months and/or days.

1. I have made sure the dates in the origin table are actually dates, not text. In the table itself it does show the years when the filter is selected so i I know there is no issue there.
2. I have gone into the Excel Options even.. and made sure the option to group is checked, just to make sure.

I have included a file named "samplebook" to this post for you to see.

If you click on the filter menu on the pivot it just lists the dates singularly. I want to summarize it by Year.

click on the date filter of the table itself so you see what i mean. It's correctly formatted!

I don't really understand your problem. I grouped the dates by year, applied the filter and the year grouping is there as required

If it worked for you then it MUST be something in my Excel Settings somewhere. When I open the same file on my desktop only the individual dates appear. Yet, when i open other saved files elsewhere on our server those filters work fine.

It's a mystery to me at this point!

You have not grouped your dates by year in the PT ( right click a date - click Group - Select Years)

If i right-click and "Group" then it will do it, but all other pivot tables i've had just show it out of the box without splitting it into Year and Month (Like the table in the workbook). Problem is also that I am using that filter up on top, not as part of the pivot columns themselves and you can't group it while it's up there.
