    Chart/Conditional Formatting Problem

    Hi everyone,

    First post so be gentle!

Basically I have a conditional formatting/chart problem. I have two sets of data that change based on a drop down list. If drop down option 1 is selected the numbers are number format, if drop down option 2 is selected the numbers should be in currency format. This is to display both sets of data in their correct format.

I have a basic conditional formatting rule set where it looks at the cell where the drop down list is and I want it to change the cell number format for my data cells based on the text in that dropdown cell.

Now is where it gets strange. The numbers are showing correctly in the actual data cells (the data I want showing as normal numbers are fine and the other set where it shows currency is fine) however when I look at the format at the top it shows the format as "general" no matter what option in the drop down is selected. But I wanted that "general" format to switch between number and currency, based on the drop down selection. Like I mentioned, the actual data cells are showing correct, so the currency is showing and changes back to normal numbers when the drop down is changed, but it's not registering/updating at the top on the cells number format, it always remains "General".

Also I have a chart running from this data that changes based on the dropdown, and the chart is not pulling through the correct number format. The chart constantly shows the number version and not the currency version when I want it to change, I presume this is due to the conditional formatting not working and not changing the actual cell number format.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Re: Chart/Conditional Formatting Problem

Charts will only reflect the number format of the cell, not that applied by CF.

for the chart you would need helper cells for the data to be displayed in the chart. 1 set for number 1 for currency.
The use dynamic named ranges to select the correct data and reflect that in the chart

    Re: Chart/Conditional Formatting Problem

Chart data is stored in separate cells with number format applied to cells.

Chart uses named range for data.
