Sales by Account By year from invoices

    Hello
I have invoices for accounts for many years.
    They would be something like

    12/23/2008 Company A $1200
    01/15/2009 Company A $20
    01/22/2009 Company B $25
    06/23/2009 Company A $1200
    08/15/2009 Company A $20
    10/22/2009 Company B $25

    And so on

What I want is to pivot this so that I have
    Company 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012
    Company A 1200 1240
    Company B 0 50

    and so on

SO that I can see what business we did with our customers over time.
The columns are the sum of the invoices for a certain year
    The rows are the company

What is the best way to do this?

Thanks in advance. Appreciate the help.
    Sam

Are you still using Excel 2007?

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook (yellow banner: HOW TO ATTACH YOUR SAMPLE WORKBOOK). Screenshots are of little practical use as we cannot manipulate them.

A good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data that has been desensitised. It also has expected results mocked up, worked examples where required, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

Re: Sales by Account By year from invoices

I am using Excel from Office 365 - which is probably very current.
I am new to this forum.
    I have attached a sample file ( I think).

    Thanks

    In A21:

    =HSTACK("COMPANY",TRANSPOSE(SORT(UNIQUE(YEAR(A4:A10)),,1)))

    In A22:

    =UNIQUE(C4:C10)

In B22 copied across and down:

    =SUMPRODUCT(($C$4:$C$10=$A22)*(YEAR($A$4:$A$10)=B$21)*($D$4:$D$10))

Re: Sales by Account By year from invoices

    Hello

I solved this problem using a pivot table and it was quite easy.

However, I have a follow on question.

How do I sort rows in a pivot table. I have the SUM of a row in the last column. I want to sort all the rows using the last column as the control. SO the higheest number in the last column moves the row to number 1. The next highest inthe last column is row number 2 etc.

    Thanks in advance,
    Sam

    Hello
I figured out how to sort rows based on the grand total. It was quite easy. Just click on any row in the grand total column and choose sort (largest to smallest or the other way).
    Thanks very much
    Sam
