my line chart has blank space on both sides of the data line. i don't have any blank fields for the data.
how do i make the lines go all the way to the edges of the chart?

Format the axis so Value (Y) axis crosses between categories.
For xl2003 you can double click the x axis and find the setting on the scale tab.
for xl2007 you can select the axis.
CTRL+1 to display Format Axis dialog.
Axis Options > Position Axis: > On tick marks
