    Multi Level Charting

Good Evening. I'm having some trouble with multi-level charting and am hoping for some suggestions. Basically, I'm trying to represent sets of output values (Y) based on two X inputs (Weight and Altitude). I have attached an example file for reference. The display output is beautiful - The scatter plots are drawing nice lines for the different weights at each altitude. The X-axis lables are where I am running into trouble.

In the example each "mini-set" of points references a different altitude, 29k-39k. Is there a way for me to label these appropriately? The X-axis now is using the range A1:B73 and I believe the X axis is an arbitrary data point labeled 0 though 72.

I know that I could just do multiple series, one for each altitude, but I am planning to add several outputs based on the same input - Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4. That would end up with 24 series, which makes the graph a bit cluttered. If they are categorized by the second X input (altitude), the graph will be much more usable for the end reader. Thanks for any advice,

    Re: Multi Level Charting

    Andy,

Thank you. That's very close to what I had in mind. I see how you set the X axis labels to a multi-column range (D2:E73) and Excel automatically moved to a multi level category. Ideally, I would like to display only the larger category as my user will be familiar with the weights already. Something that looks like the attached. The only issue I have with the attached is that it isn't visually obvious that each large category is associated with the "mini-series" of weights. Any thoughts on that?

    Thanks,

Then replace the inner text with a space. Turn off Tick marks.

Thanks Andy. That's exactly what I was missing. High accolades to you, and to the forum itself. Every time I hit a roadblock with Excel, the nice folks frequenting this forum teach me how to get through it.

I've attached the final version in case anyone else would like to see the result.
