How to colour quardrants of a point chart

    Hi Everyone,

I have to prepare a point chart in which every quarter is filled in a different colour. For example quarter with the possitive numbers on the vertical and horizontal axis is green, quarter with the negative numebers on the vertical and horizontal axis is in red, and other to in e.g. yellow.
To have some idea how it should look like, please see that chart:

I'm not sure if I explained it clearly but hope you know what I mean. Is it possible to do such a chart in excel?

Re: How to colour quardrants of a point chart

Thanks martindwilson but I've seen that site.
It's not realy what I want to do. On this site it's shown how to colour quadrants but only for one quadrant of the chart (with possitive figures on both axis).
What I want to get is to colour quadrants of the chart which are created by an intersection of the chart's axis. Do you know what I mean?

If you put the column series on the secondary axis you can use +/- xy-scatter.

    Andy,

    It looks fantastic!
Did you do that base on the info from the site given by a martindwilson? I will have to go through this one more time.
    Thank you.

I used a slightly different approach to Jon, dummy series as column charts, due to the negative values.

Whlst it appears negative values will work the axis is not labelled correctly

Andy, have you found the way to have the coloured quadrants adjust when you change the data? I mean there is no problem when axis cross in the middle of the chart. Otherwise the chart doesn't look good. The only way out I've found is to fix a minimum and maximum value of the x axis and the absolute values of them have to be the same.

This variation uses the area data series. I have set it up so you can specify any percentage for horizontal or vertical split.

Area data series are on the primary axis, scatter on the secondary.

Re: How to colour quardrants of a point chart

    Thanks Andy that's nearly perfect.
You showed me the method how to adjust coloured quadrants but still when I change data I have to manipulate with the percentiges (horizontal % and vertical%).

To manipulate these percentages I've written a simple code which gives me in the cell f6 and f7 these numbers calculated based on the min and max of vartical and horizontal axis (these min and max are set automaticly by excel based on the actual data):

But something is wrong with these code because the percentages are adjusted but the workbook breaks down. Do you know what is wrong and how to fix it?
