Pivot table grouping by policy year

I work for an insurance company and have to format very large files of losses. I have figured out how to quickly use pivot tables to give me total incurred losses for 1/1 policy years (easy). Where I am having trouble is when my policy years begin on odd dates such as March 15th. Since I need to run the losses as policy years, I have been looking for a quick way of using the grouping function in pivot tables to group all dates in a certain policy year, such as 3/15/11 to 3/14/12. Then produce the total incurred losses for that policy year (which I don’t have trouble doing).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Smity, Welcome to the forum.
Get the dates in row labels and then
1. Bring the cursor on the first date you want to group
2. You will notice cursor becoming a right pointing arrow
3. Click and select the entire row
4. Holding the Ctrl key select the other dates you want in that group
5. After selecting all the dates, right click and click on group this will give you your first date group and a new column where you can change the group name
6. Post a sample date file if this doesnt help.
