How to retain gridlines across coloured zones

Have an XY scatter chart that I would like to divide into four vertical coloured zones. Can use Draw/Rectangle for the zones but placing them on the chart puts them over the gridlines, and neither the zones can be sent to the back nor the gridlines brought to the front. How can the gridlines be shown over the coloured zones? Am using Excel 2002.

Right click on the shape and choose Format Object. Under Fill there is a sliding scale for Transparency.

Edit: I just saw that you are using Excel 2002. I can only assume that you have that option there too.
Selecting the shape and hit Ctrl + 1 should take you to the format options interface as well.

Right click on the shape and just choose "send to back". Select plot area and choose 'No fill' and now select 'chart area' and choose 'No fill'. It should work. See the attachment.

Thumbs up Re: How to retain gridlines across coloured zones

Many thanks for the responses. The solutions worked fine, although the first was the simplest. I used 50% transparency to good effect. Your assistance is appreciated.http://www.excelforum.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
