Bar Chart with Second Chart Type that does not use a secondary access

    Hi All,

Building a bar chart that I have tricked into making the x axis read like years, and what I am really doing is making the Bar chart work a little like MS project. If you look at my excel file you can see what I am doing, and what I want it to do. I need to add a data point in column Z that shows up like a diamond or triangle or something like that. I am thinking I need to change chart type so it is a line graph or scatter plot but I cannot get the positioning to read by project and line it up along the x axis, it wants to put a secondary y axis on the right and evenly spread the datapoints across the x. I have a Tab that shows what I want it to look like, but these markers are pasted in, need them to be automatic.
Does anyone know how to put a marker datapoint on a bar chart? If I can get the line graph to line up right I can just hide the lines and keep the markers.

    Thanks in advance,

To hide lines you have to right-lick on it, select Format Data Point, click on Line Color and select No Line.

Thanks but that is not the problem. If I use a line chart to solve this, the lines go across but the number line up with the y axis, I need the lines to go down where the number lines up with the x axis.

I figured out how to do this by using two seperate charts. My original chart and then a second stacked bar chart. That bar chart has a clear bar on the left and a picture in the bar on the right instead of a bar. I would much rather do it all in one chart, any suggestions?

change the Driver series to XY-scatter and provide it with x and y values.

You need to fix the secondary vertical axis maximum to the number of categories on the primary vertical axis.

Wow, you figured it out so simply, thanks very much. One problem this creats is that I will be hidding some of these with a macro and when I do that, that scatter plot drivers get off where they are supposed to be, maybe I can figure it out with a formula based on the number of unhidden rows. Sounds like a challenge for me. Thanks for this, very helpful.
