    Require a formula to number occurances as they happen

    Hi, this is probably easy but I just can't get my head round it.

    I need a formula to count names as they occur and put a number next to the name i.e.-

    John 1
    John 2
    Steve 1
    Dave 1
    John 3
    Mark 1
    James 1
    Steve 2
    John 4

    Any help would be appreciated as always.
