Need to make the same multiple records into one without losing additional data

    Hello,

I am working on a very large project with many duplicate records. Basically what I need to do is combine the duplicates without losing the extra data that is in the last cell on each row.

In the attached document I show samples of 14 records in the "multiple records" worksheet and then an example of one record with the additional data expanded out in the "how I need the data" worksheet.

Any help you can offer would be much appreciated. I ran a simple formula to show me where all the duplicate records are, but with over 180,000 records it may take me the rest of my days, and give me carpal tunnel syndrome trying to manually move the data and delete the duplicates.

If anyone can help me I would be so thankful!
    Thanks,

    Lydia,

Is there any limit on the number of additional data columns to be added? Do you really want the additional data columns to be separated into multiple columns or into one single column?

Re: Need to make the same multiple records into one without losing additional data

    Sarang,

I am unsure how many duplicate records per individual I am looking at. It could be as many as 6 or 7.

I think adding all the additional data in the last column, separated by commas, would work as well. Then if I need to split that data
out it is very easy to do.

Thank you SO much for your help on this.

    Azumi,

I will try your formulas once I get to work and see if they will work.

    Thank you so much!

Re: Need to make the same multiple records into one without losing additional data

I would suggest a different approach (from Azumi's) for your data though, coz using array formulas if your data set is huge would slow down your performance and might probably increase the size of your workbook. Pls be on look out for solutions from other experts too...

    Sarang,

Do you have any other suggested formula's to accomplish this task?

I will try Azumi's formula's on my smallest database once I get into the office and see how it works.

    Again thanks for your help.

    Hi Lydia,

Would just generating a pivot table from your data resolve your needs? Refer attached file.
Pivot table is placed in Sheet1.

Re: Need to make the same multiple records into one without losing additional data

If I may know your small database is?, maybe i can help if you upload it at the forum, if any sensitive data there just remove them and make a fake data thet describe the problem, maybe 20 - 30 rows of data is enough...

    Cheers
