Creating a sliding percentage scale dependent on volume, affecting a rate

    Thanks in advance.

    The data:
-Number of occurrences ranging from >=200 to <1600.
-the rate can be any number
    ->=200 is increased by 25%
    -1600 is increased by 0%

The percentage is sliding scale between the two figures 200 and 1600. I need to create a total effect on any rate dependent on that sliding scale. How would I perform this?

This explanation is not clear. Let me restate what you've said and you'll see where the holes are.

The data includes a number of occurrences.
The number of occurrences is >=200 and <1600
Each number of occurrences can be increased by a rate expressed as a percentage.
The rate can be any number
A number of occurrences >=200 is increased by 25%
How can the rate be any number if the rate is 25% when the number is >=200?
The percentage is a sliding scale
How can the percentage be a sliding scale if the rate is 25% when the number is >=200?
You want to create a total effect on any rate dependent on that sliding scale.
What does a "total effect on any rate" mean? How is it dependent on the sliding scale?

The biggest problem is you have given no idea of how you want to determine the rate.

Your explanation suggests that you are asking for an Excel solution to a problem that you haven't completely defined yet.

    Hi romanvid

    Welcome to the forum

6StringJazzer is quite right in that it in not completely clear (!) what you are asking.

However, on the basis that "fools rush in where Angels fear to tread" I have interpreted your request in my own fashion and come up with the attached.

It works correctly for my interpretation of your problem. How is it for you?

I'd have interpreted this in exactly the same way...

Re: Creating a sliding percentage scale dependent on volume, affecting a rate

The main confusion in the OP is the use of the word "rate". I took the word "rate" to refer to the percentage. The alternate interpretation is to use it to refer to the "number".

aydeegee, that seems to be a reasonable interpretation. However, I notice with your solution that plugging in 200 gives 0%, and 1600 gives 25%. I would have thought that should be the reverse. Can you explain your interpretation?

If you are correct, then the question being asked is:

    How do I do a linear interpolation of a percentage (y) given a value (x) between the endpoints (200, 0%) and (1600, 25%)?

As Glenn so succinctly puts it - DOHHH!!

That's what comes of playing with a file after you have arrived at an answer. I just wanted to see what would happen if I reversed it.

Anyway - I have stuck in a couple of "ABS"s which will deal with all eventualities (according to my rules )

Let's see if the OP responds.
