    vlookup giving #N/A results

I've been using vlookup for years. Recently, it has stopped working properly for me.
I have two sheets in the same file. When I use vlookup from sheet 1 to find a matching value on sheet 2 (Lawyers), I get #N/A in all cases.

    My cell formula is =

Generally, for an exact match, you would set the fourth parameter to FALSE. And, if you intend to copy the formula, the range should be absolute.

If you still get #N/A, then maybe your data in column M in Sheet1 contains leading / trailing spaces or does have match due to uppercase / lowercase strings. Or the match phrases in Lawyers sheet has leading / trailing spaces or may not match due to the case-sensitivity as well. If it doesn't work, post a sample workbook with insensitive data.

I'm pretty sure VLOOKUP isn't case sensitive. But you can have issues with numeric numbers vs text "numbers".

One thing to watch out for is if you are comparing numbers with text (for example if this involves invoice numbers).

If, for example, M9 is a number and the lawyers sheet may contain some references that are text (and you want to work with text) you can use.
