Trouble with COUNTIF, to count a cell or not

I know there is a better way of doing this, just cant thing of it at the moment, but try this...
=IF(COUNTIF(M6:AQ6,"")=COUNT($M$5:$AQ$5),"",COUNTIF(M6:AQ6,"HLV")+COUNTIF(M6:AQ6,"TLV")+COUNTIF(M6:AQ6,"ADM")+COUNTIF(M6:AQ6,"RTN")+COUNTIF(M6:AQ6,"LCCN"))

No, the $M$5:$AQ$5 needs to stay exactly that. It is counting the days in your month. I used that to cater for 30 and 28 day months.

So, If I understand you correctly, you want to count those entries NOT = to HLV,TLV,ADM,RTN or LCCN?

Maybe try this?
=COUNTIFS(M6:AQ6,"<>HLV",M6:AQ6,"<>TLV",M6:AQ6,"<>ADM",M6:AQ6,"<>RTN",M6:AQ6,"<>LCCN")

We might not be on the same track/page here. The COUNTIF formula I have currently works fine, it starts at 31 for the days of the month. The COUNTIF do not count against the 31 days, however I do have other entries that do count against the 31 days. What I am looking for is to have the A6 trigger the COUNTIF formula for row 6. So if there is a last name in A6, the formula will count cells M6-AQ6 using my COUNTIF formula and show up in BC6. However if cell A6 is empty/blank, the COUNTIF formula does not kick in and cell BC6 is either ZERO or FALSE.

I have two other spreadsheets set up to reflect the 28 and 30 days, once I have a working formula I will copy to those as well.
