    Ranking data in a table?

    Hello,

I hope tha title makes sense...

here is an example of what my data looks like:

    Book1.xls

the numerical data under the colors is the cost to make an item that color. i need a way to say that i have "n" of each color available to make and then a way to tell me which items to make which color for the lowest cost. any help is greatly appreciated.

I took a stab at this as well. Are you looking to understand the number of colors available for each item, and then the lowest cost color for each item?

Re: Ranking data in a table?

Thank you all for the replies! Not quite what I was looking for... I made a few changes to the attached sheet that might help. Heres some more detail to go along as well:

Say I have 30 items and a total of 30 color kits, not 30 of each color just 30 total for all colors, to apply to each. The table of costs are the cost to make each specific item that color. Every item has a 0 cost color, but I might not have enough of that color for all the items that are 0 cost for that color. The other numbers across the rows for each item, 1-30, are the incremental cost to make that specific item the color of the column it is in. Different amount of kits for each color are possible. I included an input field on the attached sheet so you can see what i am talking about (L3:N10) . I want to be able to change the availablity of the different color kits; 9 red, 2 purple, etc. Then in column J labeled "color" i want it to say make this item red, purple, etc for each item based on the availablity of the colors and the incremental cost to go from the 0 cost color to the next cheapest color and so on. So if i add up everything label purple in column J there will bne as many as i said i have in cell M9. the same for all the other colors. I would also be OK if the info was output with each item under a color header (example 2 on the sheet).

My actual problem isnt making items colors it is they way items are stored in a warehouse, but some of the cost info is based on proprietary engineered labor standards that i cant post on a public forum. so making items different colors seemd like an easier way to describe my situation...

    Thanks again for any help!!

    For red you give those answers 2 7 13 14 24

In your table there are more items that match.

    Why just these 5 numbers?

I appreciate it, if you reply on my solution.
