Conditional Formatting copies rule for each row

Hi All

Does anyone else have this problem/what do i do?
I have a number of formulas that highlight the row a certain colour based on the text in one cell,
eg: [=INDIRECT("N"&ROW())="waiting"]-applies to: $1:$105648
the problem is if any columns or are added then it changes my conditional format to exclude it, and i also end up with the rule creating many versions for each row.
