    help required looking up info from names manager

    Hi All,

    I have a couple of spreadsheets where i have stock items, prices, wattage and supplier etc... I have used the name manager to create a database of the information (IDB) and a spreadsheet i use for costings. when i use this formula: =DSUM(IDB,'[Kit List.xlsx]Sheet1'!$G$5,D$4:D5) it works on the prices (dsum) and when it looksup the product with the heading (D$4:D5) then looks at the database with the header (IDB,'[Kit List.xlsx]Sheet1'!$G$5) and retrieves the relevant info... price, wattage etc. but now i have added in a supplier so i know who it was bought from. the problem is instead of a supplier name its retrieving a figure?? i pressume its something to do with dsum but i dont know what else to put there to have it retrieve the name instead.

    Thanks in advance for any help

    Hi,

    doing it this way makes quoting easier as well as keeping up to date prices of where items were purchased, the quotes are internal for jobs (but sometimes sent to clients) but instead of filling in manual info i can select products from a dropdown list and that inturn populates prices/wattage/supplier for estimates instead of manually filling out fields etc.

    If this is a reply on my question in #2, I can't follow the statement.

    For better help, it is usefull if you upload an excelfile on the excelforum.

    In which cell you need a formula, and what would be the result of that cell (and why).

    Re: help required looking up info from names manager

    The formulas in files E5,G5 & I5 are basically doing the same function and E5 and I5 are working fine. G5 i need it to return the supplier name from the database using the list on the info tab. but instead of retreiving a supplier name it shows as a number.

    So i select a product from column D drop down (which looks at DB on 'info' tab and it fills out price, supplier etc that is relevant to that product from the info tab.

    Thanks

    I should use VLOOKup for that

    G5=VLookup($D5,Info!$C$5:$F$29,3,0)

    Thanks for the reply.

    Glad I could help.

    You can also use the VLookup for watts and price.
