Question Using Excel to Locate Matches from Multiple Lists

To elaborate on the subject heading - I am exporting data from two different reports (from my ERP) into a single excel worksheet. Both lists contain a column for a PO number and a column for a date - however one list has the order date and the other has the receipt date. The purpose of course is to use the NETWORKDAYS function to calculate the difference and thus supplier lead time.

The problem with this process lies in the fact that the two lists of dates/orders come from two different reports and are not identical; i.e. one will have way more orders and dates than the other - and the larger list won't even necessarily have all of the orders contained in the smaller list. I have not discovered exactly how to use indexing, matching, or VLOOKUPS to eliminate the dates and orders that don't have a match. The end goal is to have four columns: an order number, an order date, the same order number from the other export, and the receipt date. Is this an index/match issue? Can VLOOKUPs Help? I really don't know at this point and would appreciate any assistance.

    Thank you,
    Tim

Can you upload a sanitized sample file illustrating what you're trying to accomplish?

Yes I made a simple version at work today but now I am home - will upload tomorrow morning. It is a very condensed version as the real thing would have hundreds if not thousands of records. The mock data has maybe ten I think.

I see your desired 4 columns, but this isn't especially helpful without the two source files to compare to. Need to know where the data is coming from.

Re: Using Excel to Locate Matches from Multiple Lists

I somehow deleted my response before posting - but in response to your question - the source files are contained in our ERP module - I export two reports to two separate spreadsheets and then copy/paste the order# and order date from one spreadsheet to the other resulting in two lists of order #'s and dates on one spreadsheet. So I am not sure exactly what you would like me to do to be of help but I'd be happy to do so.
