I'm having problems with conditional formatting!

I have three conditional formating rules:
    1. Expecting results of alternating row colours.

    2. expecting cells containing "NTLF" to be white text on a red background.

    3. expecting cells containing "!!!" to be black text on an orange background.

    The first one works beautifully.

The second only works unexpectedly; The text colour changes on all cells containing "NTLF", but the background colour doesn't change on cells affected by the first rule. The cells in that column contain a selection box, which I think is where the trouble lies.

The third works fine on all rows, affected or not by the first rule.

    My Question:
Why does the background colour of the second rule not change?

Re: I'm having problems with conditional formatting!

    Wayne,
Thanks. I put the first rule last and it works, with "stop if true" unchecked. I take the order is not one of appliction but priority?

Now, I have discovered that if I cut and paste a cell, the rule is not reapplied, meaning the background colour for the alternating rows is cut and pasted as well, even if I add new text to the cell. Not sure why that is. I've thought about using VBA to format the rows but am not sure if that would solve my problem.
