    Counting Transitions (cycles)

I have 1 column with a series of values that range from 0 to 1400. In this range, I need to count how many times the series goes from less than 301 to above 1119. I have inserted a screen shot of excel and used conditional formatting to show the cycles. When a group of blue cells transition to red, I would need an expression to calculate 1 for each transition (I don't care about red to blue transitions, just blue to red working downward). So in this example, I would have 2 "cycles".

I have no clue how to do this!! Thanks in advance for any ideas

    Re: Counting Transitions (cycles)

I only know how to do this with helper columns.
The first column simply resets it to Low Range, or High range, when these are met.
the second helper column adds a 1 when a switch from Low to High occurs.
The sum of that column is the number of Cycles that occurred.

Thank you for your help. Well, you did a lot better than me, it took me 3 columns to calculate this!

It would still be great if someone had an idea how to calculate this with a single statement (though not sure it's possible).

Actually, nevermind. I just created a new sheet specifically to use the formulas that Melvinrobb had shown. It works perfectly, no reason to mess with it further. Thanks again!!!
