not sure how to formulate my question

    Hi everyone

I am trying to work out a spreadsheet that would help my mate with his stock market share averaging.
Writing one to input a new $ value commitment to show new average position size and total cost cost was easy.So was inputting a new number of shares sought to derive new averages.
Now I am stuck with this question. I have a existing open position of say 10000 shares and I paid $1 for it and I know the shares are currently trading at $0.50.
If I would like my average to be $ 0.75 ,how many would I have to buy ?
I've copied and pasted the cells and it looks untidy here but I hope you get the idea.

    Stock Price paid Totals
    nr held 10000 $1.00 $10,000.00
    nr added

After averaging Total held Position total
    10000 $10,000.00

    New Average $0.50

    Thanks and cheers

Re: not sure how to formulate my question

    Hi Rizvi,

    the answer unfortunately is no.

"Now I am stuck with this question. I have a existing open position of say 10000 shares and I paid $1 for it and I know the shares are currently trading at $0.50.

    I hold 10000,spend $10000 at an average of $1.
If they now cost 0.5$ how many would I have to buy to bring my average to $ 0.75 ( or 0.8 or 0.4 or whatever)
    Cheers

P.S. : Its the two on the right hand side of my attachment
