    Linking/mirroring an Excel table to another table

    Hello all. Was just hoping for a little help on something I think should be fairly simple… I’ve been trying for 3 hours but cannot work it out! Within our company, we used to have 5 different forms which were issued for 5 different types of jobs. Instead of having all these separate forms which were difficult to maintain, I have now combined those forms into one with a nice welcome sheet allowing the user to press a button to select the form they want (the macro will then hide all other sheets not relevant and leave the user with just the sheets they need). Nice and easy, not a problem so far.

    My issue however surrounds the linking of a table. Each form currently has a contact page at the beginning with a list of names, numbers, etc. relevant to that form. What I want to do is have these 5 contact pages listed as Excel Tables separately on one master page (which can be updated in one go) – the aim then would be for the user to make a change on this master page (say a contact number changes), and it then be updated on the page that contact list is from.

    So for example…

    1. Someone changes their number.
    2. I’d be able to go to the master contacts page, update that number
    3. The number will then link and show on the contact page on the relevant form.
    4. Next time someone chooses that form on the welcome sheet, they can be sure it has the most up to date contacts on there.

    I’m fairly Excel confident having worked things out through the use of a few books and talks with colleagues, but I’m really stumped with this one!

    If the contacts are specific to one of the user forms, I'd be inclined to add a column with the form ID on it. Then you can sort the list alphabetically and/or alphabetically within a Form ID.

    List the Contact IDs on the Table for each form and then use Index/Match or VLookup to populate the details.

    Hello and thank you for the quick reply. I'd not thought of the Match function actually, I'll have a look at using it.

    I should have been more detailed in my query as well. There are no user forms on the spreadsheet - the term 'form' was used in reference to the 5 former spreadsheets (forms) used for jobs. The way the contacts currently sit are just in 5 Excel Tables and as you say, the contacts are specific to each table.

    Initially, I just did a simple '=' function so that a cell just mirrored one from the table, but this does not allow situations where an extra row may be added or cells be merged.

    Thanks again for your response, having a go at this through dinner.

    You're welcome.

    If you need any further help or advice, I suggest you post a sample workbook with some typical data.

    Just a note, if you plan on merging cells, the whole thing will go down the drain. No formula will automatically merge cells on the mirror image. Formulas also cannot automatically mirror some cell formatting (like bold, sub and superscript, etc.). They cannot mirror random color decisions.

    You can't do that without VBA and even then it's a PitA. Don't do it.

    @RFraser86 ... by the way ...
