    Formula to solve a problem

    Hi All,

I have an issue, I am relatively new to using excel.

I have to build a model in work for the construction of a number of buildings, I have a list of assumptions at the top of the page with use types and then I have a list for each site below broken into use type. I want to put a formula which matches the use type and takes the figure listed in the assumptions, I do not want to use a vlookup just in case I add rows/colums which I think will mess it up.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Just make the VLOOKUP cover a range wider than your data will occupy, ie if you're going to have no more than 100 use types/assumptions just set the range to A1:A1000 which should be more than adequate.

Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.

I was actually able to use an Index-Match formula to achieve what I was looking for, thanks for the suggestion though.

If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change a Title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.
