    Sumproduct by month

    Hello Excel Forum!

I have column A1:A300 containing various dates from 2015. I have a summary page where I am trying to 'count' how many times a specific month shows up. For example:

    Column A
    26-Jan-2015
    13-Sep-2015
    22-Apr-2015
    21-Jan-2015

I then have a summary chart as follows:

    Column B_______Column C
    Date___________No. of Occurences
    January 2015
    February 2015
    etc.

In column C, I tried the following formula but I am receiving a #VALUE! error, =SUMPRODUCT(--(MONTH($A$1:$A$300)=1)).

Any suggestions as to where I'm going wrong!?

    Thanks a lot.

    MM

    Hello welcome to the forum.

The most likely cause is that some of the dates in column A are not valid dates but text, that would produce the #VALUE error you describe. You need to check they are all valid numbers.

Check to see if column A dates are actually numbers or are text. Otherwise your formula looks good

Thanks everyone. The problem was a combination of poor formatting and blank cells.

We're glad to have helped. Formatting is often a problem in Excel.
