Average based on criteria and multiple criteria

    Hi,

On the attached speadsheet I want users to be able to get an average by selecting a house using the drop down in cell E3. This works fine but I also want them to be able to select all the houses. But I cant get this to work. Any ideas on how to do this?

    Hi,

I can't help thinking you'd be better off with a Pivot Table - see attached. Use the drop down filter to hide items not required

And if you happen to have Excel 2010 or later when Slicers were added then they will offer an even better way of filtering the PT.

    Here's another one.

    Array entered**:

    =AVERAGE(IF(E3="All",B4:B12,IF(A4:A12=E3,B4:B12)))

** array formulas need to be entered using the key
combination of CTRL,SHIFT,ENTER (not just ENTER).
Hold down both the CTRL key and the SHIFT key
    then hit ENTER.
