calculating a linear sliding scale %

    Good Evening,

I am trying to figure out how to calculate a sliding scale payout based on the information below. The actual % payout is what I am trying to calculate. Any help would be much appreciated. I am determined but feel defeated at this point.

70% Payout 100% Payout 200% Payout Actual Results Safety Deduction Environmental Deductions Actual Results (Payout %)
    January 37,890 39,884 41,878 40,243 1% 0% 117%
    February 40,007 42,113 44,218 41,558 1% 0%
    March 41,517 43,702 45,887 45,139 0% 0%

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the board.

Pretty hard to see what all that is. Please post a workbook -- the forum rules explain how.

Did you try Go Advanced and the scroll down to Manage Attachments?

Failing that, you could put a workbook on box.net or dropbox and post a link.

Re: calculating a linear sliding scale %

As a quick look, I assumed a linear interpolation model, and computed the 1st entry. I got 118% instead of 117%. This suggests to me that you are not using simple linear interpolation for this calculation. If you will explain how you want to calculate these, I'm sure we can help you program that calculation into Excel.

Here's the file I used, using the TREND() function to perform the linear interpolation. Also note that I added a row containing the 70,100,200% values (the text values at the top of the table are not very useful). Also note that this is not the final solution, but a quick test to see if I understood how you are wanting to calculate these. We can build something more complete, once we understand how you want to perform this calculation.

This is it!!!! When I take the % deduction it comes out to the answer that I need. I love excel but have never used the trend function. Thank you for teaching me something new!
