Custom number formats - make formula references appear as text

I feel like this is so simple, and I know the steps to do it, but when I do it it seems to never work right.

Problem: Apply custom number formats to make the formula references appear as the following: F2- Revenue
I have reference cells with formulas in them, I want to apply custom number formatting to turn it into the text 'Revenue'. I click the cell, right click and go to 'format cell', number > custom > click on General under type

After that it goes wrong. Am I supposed to delete the text 'General' and write in 'Revenue'? That doesn't work.

Any help is appreciated.
